Deskripsi
400 Stupas
The top three terraces of Borobudur temple feature over 400 stupas, arranged in circular formations symbolizing eternal life. Each stupa houses a Buddha statue, with 72 small stupas on the top terrace encircling a large central stupa. This central stupa represents Nirvana, or the afterlife. When including this stupa, the total height of the temple reaches 40 meters.
9 Floors
Borobudur spans 123 square meters and consists of nine floors. The lower six floors are square, while the top three are circular. These floors are divided into three sections that correspond to Mahayana Buddhist cosmology: Kamadhatu (the world of desires, or our earthly existence), Rupadhatu (the world of forms, where humans transcend earthly life), and Arupadhatu (the formless world, inhabited by gods and representing perfection).
6 Kilometers of Reliefs
The temple’s walls are adorned with nearly 6 kilometers of reliefs, illustrating various scenes. It is believed that the nine floors symbolize nine different meditation techniques required to achieve the highest spiritual level. More than 1,500 reliefs on the lower four floors depict the life of Buddha, each rendered with remarkable detail.
